Description
Origin: Niger region of the Republic of Mali, excavated from Segou, the ancient capital of the Bambara Empire c. 1640 – 1862, the seated female figure in a backwards inclined position, with a small head & facial features, the body featuring incised naïve sacrification marks to neck & the torso, on a legless base, set on a rectangular-shaped perspex base (Height without base: 25cm) (Condition report: Imperfections, losses & age wearing) Note: This figurine was possibly used as a fertility figurine, helping women to conceive and bear healthy children.
