Mid 18th Century slightly coloured copper plate engraved map, from the Brion de la Tour Atlas Général the map depicts southern Africa with a Rococo cartouche on the lower right, flanked by two side-panels of text which were stuck to the sheet at time of publication pertaining to Congo, Monomatapa, Zanzibar Cape of Good Hope and the islands, the west coast is referred to as Cote Deserte. The Orange River has not yet become known (Map size: 23 x 25cm) (Sheet size: 34 x 50.5cm) (Condition report: Foxing, fading, age wearing, staining & minor losses to margins).
