Shape no. 1974, the circular-shaped body with scalloped rim, central hand painted portrait of Jan van Riebeeck against a pale blue background, (later confirmed to be Bartholomeus Vermuyden, military captain in the Dutch Infantry), after Dirck Craey (1610-1666), enclosed by 2 x line bands and surrounded by a running leafy-scroll, fruit and rocaille decorated border, verso inscribed: Jan van Riebeeck Herdenking, 1652-1952, further signed signed with jar, initials J T and the city of manufactory: Delft, date code for -1951, and the artist’s initials: K.B. and W.T.H. drilled holes above with wire attachment hook on the underside (Diameter: 40.5cm)
