the oval-shaped top with stepped, moulded and rebated edge, over a blind and curved frieze rail with dual winding mechanism aperture, each end supported on baluster-turned and ring-turned, drum-shaped supports above two raised, carved and incised strapwork embellished downswept scrolled legs, applied with roundel cabochons and bosses, terminating on figured and carved lion paw feet, on casters. A central removable plank support over two slender detachable central baluster-turned and ring-turned legs on brass capped casters SOLD TOGETHER with 2 x winding cranks, each stamped: Samuel Hawkins, Patentee, 54 Bishopsgate St, S. London, which thence extend the lower adjustable framework of the table allowing for seven additional table leaf insertions (Table fully extended: 74 x 488 x 152cm) ACCOMPANIED BY a matching leaf storage cabinet, in form of a dining sideboard, the triangular back panel surmounted by half round roundels on either end, set on a lower rectangular-shaped top with rebated and moulded edge, over a plain frieze, above graduated turned vase-shaped pilasters flanking a central panelled front and further flanked by two side panel doors, fitted with knopped handles, opening to reveal sectional green baize lined leaf slots, on a conforming plinth base (98 x 169 x 59cm) AND AN original catalogue wherein the table and storage cabinet were listed by the previous auction house 23 years ago (Condition report: Losses evident to veneer and table, minor splits, old repair, age wear and oxidation to casters evident) Provenance: Stephan Welz and Co in Association with Sotheby’s, Decorative and Collector’s Items, Session 1 – Clocks, Carpets, English, Continental, South African and Oriental Furniture Monday 14th April 2003, Lot 131
