made for the export market c. 1930s-1940s, the raised, carved, fretted and reticulated hardwood bell stand, the two side pillars feature classic stylised Chilong (hornless dragon masques with open mouths and inset glass eyes, surmounted by an openwork tiered pagoda integrated into the top of the frame, over a central open archway, suspending a cast metal hook and cast brass temple bell with integral hoop, adorned with incised and engraved bamboo motifs and archaic-style seal script (Zhuanshu), all set on a ruyi and cloud scroll base with central lotus flower motif (44 x 25 x 5cm) (Condition report: Age wearing split evident)
