Celebrating the arrival of approximately 4 000 British settlers at Algoa Bay on April 10, 1820. Obverse: Featuring a Settler family of six, facing left; one boy pointing. Signed: ‘T.S.’ below left. Inscribed: ‘On April 10, 1820, The First of 4000 / British Settlers Set Foot on Shore / At Algoa Bay. These People played a vital part in the Development of Southern Africa’. Reverse – Inscribed: 1820 ‘By Choice and Conscious Will’. 1970. Above: A Rose (England), a Protea, a Thistle (Scotland) and a Strelitzia and below: A Shamrock (Ireland),an Aloe plant, two leaks (Wales) and two arum lilies.
