Maker: Facit AB (Åtvidaberg-Facit), Sweden c. 1967, serial no. 931 625, originally launched in 1957, discontinued in 1972, the heavy cast all-metal construction and riveted case finished in a light grey protective enamel paint, fitted with an Odhner style pinwheel system with key setting mechanism, 9 digit keyboard entry, 8 digit counter register and 13-digit accumulator output, 2 x mechanical carriage buttons, rotating hand crank (forward to add/multiply) or (backward to subtract/divide), further embellished with an affixed plaque, inscribed: Escherich Development. (16 x 31 x 21cm) (Mass: 6kg) (Condition report: Sold, as found, age wearing, oxidation and minor losses evident) Note: Escherich Development (Pty) Ltd was a prominent South African engineering and development firm active in the latter half of the 20th century. Notably, they were involved in historical South African corporate and trademark litigation, such as the widely cited industrial competition case Escherich Development (Pty) Ltd v Andrew Mentis Steel Sales (Pty) Ltd (1983).
