Description
(Number 2), designed by Bijorn Wiinblad, part of the Christmas Carol Series, depicting a festive season snowy landscape scenario with a group of children, gathered outside an ornate house amongst bedecked Christmas trees, joyfully ringing handbells and spreading Christmas cheer. Father Christmas is seated in his sleigh, bearing an abundance of gifts being pulled by a stylised stallion and accompanied by winged angels, inscribed: Weihnachten 1984, all decorated in polychrome colours with gilded accents, against a cobalt blue background, enclosed by repetitive floral border and further embellished with the designer’s facsimile signature, verso inscribed in German with the title, text of the carol (“Ring, Little Bell”), further inscribed: Text: Carl Enslin (1819-1875) and Melodie: Benedikt Widmann (1820-1910), factory mark, designer’s signature and inscribed: Weihnachten 1984 in gilt overglaze and attachment hook (Diameter: 28cm)
